

On July 11, the closing ceremony of the 9th International Summer School on Smart Cities and the 4th BRAUIC Young Scholars Forum under the theme “Silk Road Youth Synergy: Co-Creating the Future” were successfully concluded. Attendees included YU Xueyin, Chairman of CPPCC (Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference) Daxing District Committee; SHI Weiliang, Chair of the Urban Planning Society of Beijing; BUCEA President ZHANG Dayu; Vice President CHEN Zhaohui; and representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Daxing District CPPCC and government, the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Student Consortium, and faculty and student participants of the Summer School. Over 100 experts, scholars, and young students from 14 universities and research institutes across 11 countries took part in 10 days of courses and hands-on fieldwork.

CHEN Zhaohui spoke on behalf of BUCEA and BRAUIC, congratulating the students on completing the program and expressing sincere gratitude to experts, staff, and student volunteers. She said that as the chair and secretariat of the BRAUIC, BUCEA has focused on cultivating top innovative talent in architectural engineering and promoting collaborative innovation in science and technology. It has created a series of signature programs, such as the International Summer School and the Young Scholars Forum, achieving fruitful results in international cooperation. She encouraged students to serve as advocates, promoters, and contributors to cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and other countries, helping to advance high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

YU Shanchuan, Director, General Division, Department of Standards and Quotas from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, highly commended the Summer School's achievements and BUCEA's remarkable results in training internationally minded professionals through the founding of the BRAUIC.

Student representatives looked back at the goals they set during the opening ceremony through wish cards and shared how they grew by turning what they learned at the Summer School into practical results.
The event began with a short video reviewing the Summer School.

Four groups of Chinese and international students then took turns sharing their thoughts and experiences. Students said the five hands-on practical activities newly added this year greatly enriched their learning and practical experience.

The 4th BRAUIC Young Scholars Forum was held alongside the Summer School. Themed “Silk Road Youth Synergy: Co-Creating the Future”, the forum invited Boytsova Daria, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Architecture at Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU); Ulugbek Karimov, senior lecturer in Department of Landscape Design Architecture at Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction of Uzbekistan; Vasala Saicharan, Assistant Professor at Sharda University (India) and Board of Directors and Website Administrator of ISPRS Student Consortium; and GONG Changyu, BUCEA student representative and member of the ISPRS Student Consortium Student Chapter-China-BUCEA. Discussions focused on innovation and sustainable development along the Belt and Road, as well as young scholars’ growth and cultural exchange achievements.
BUCEA also held in-depth discussions with universities such as Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Samarkand State University of Architecture and Construction of Uzbekistan, and Tianjin Chengjian University to explore regular cooperation mechanisms, strengthen the Consortium’s sustainable development, and promote joint international talent training.

Historical and Cultural Exchange Activities
Since its launch in 2016, the International Summer School on Smart Cities has brought together top teaching resources from China and abroad, inviting renowned professors from home and abroad to give lectures. It helps young people from China and other countries gain a deeper understanding of both the development of China’s architectural traditions and the latest advances in smart construction technologies. This year’s 10-day program featured immersive learning and practice centered on the integration of technology, culture, and ecology. It aimed to provide a higher-quality platform, promote collaboration and mutual benefit, and encourage global sharing of educational resources among universities.
