On the morning of May 30, Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council (ISC), visited Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA), accompanied by QIN Jiuyi, Deputy Director of the China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE, an affiliated institution of the China Association for Science and Technology), and ZHANG Shaojie, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography (CSGPC). The delegation held discussions with BUCEA on preparations for the satellite meeting on “Geoscience and Urban Sustainability,” to be held during the 2026 ISC Mid-term Meeting. BUCEA President ZHANG Dayu, Vice Presidents LI Junqi and YI Tinghua, as well as representatives from CISTE, CSGPC, and relevant university departments and schools attended the event.

ZHANG Dayu extended a warm welcome to Peter Gluckman and the delegation. He noted that BUCEA, as the only architecture-focused university in Beijing, features distinct academic strengths in smart cities, spatial information, and green low-carbon technologies. He emphasized that BUCEA attaches great importance to hosting the 2026 satellite meeting and views it as an opportunity to deepen cooperation and communication with ISC and other organizations.

Peter Gluckman commended BUCEA’s efforts in preparing for the satellite meeting. He stated that the upcoming event would bring together leading scholars worldwide and would hold significance far beyond academic exchange, as it concerns humanity’s development over the next thirty years. He stressed that the mid-term meeting should focus on key issues such as smart city transformation and disaster prevention.

QIN Jiuyi provided an overview of the background, progress, and planning of the 2026 ISC Mid-term Meeting to be held in Beijing.

ZHANG Shaojie pointed out that BUCEA has a strong research foundation and disciplinary advantages in spatial information, urban sustainability, and smart construction, which lay a solid academic basis for hosting the satellite meeting.

JIANG Jie, Secretary-General of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and professor at BUCEA’s School of Geomatics and Urban Spatial Informatics, introduced BUCEA’s experience in organizing international conferences and outlined the preliminary plan for the 2026 satellite meeting.
Participants conducted in-depth discussions on ensuring a high-quality and impactful event.
